Peter Böckli completed his studies in Basel in 1960 with a thesis on shareholders voting rights, and entered legal practice as an attorney-at-law in 1962. From 1963 to 1966 he was employed as a trainee and then as an associate with White & Case in New York and Paris. Since 1967 he has practised law in Basel. In 1975 he obtained his post-doctoral degree in tax law and lectured as a part-time professor until 2001 on tax and business law at the University of Basel.
Since 1979 he has dedicated a substantial amount of his time to his duties as a non-executive member of the boards of various Swiss public companies. He was employed by the Swiss government in a number of expert committees for the revision of federal laws.
